13 Reasons Companies Can’t Find Employees

At the moment a lot of companies searching for new employees are facing an issue, as the old ways of finding employees simply aren’t working. There are a lot of stakeholders involved in the process of finding employees, ranging from the head of the company, HR specialists, production managers and so on. However, the results most often are disappointing. Employees can’t be found, no one takes responsibility and the reasons for the failed recruitment mission aren’t normally analyzed. As an experienced HR agency, we’ve gathered a couple of insights throughout the years, which we’d like to share. So what are actually the main reasons why it’s hard to find employees?

1. Companies expect top notch employees, while that’s a minority among job seekers.
2. Companies have a set of very rigid requirements, while at the same time superficially scanning CVs and only inviting candidates with 100% matching qualifications.
3. Head of the company tends to delegate recruitment to other employees (e.g. production managers) that do their job well, but neither have the skills nor the time for the employee search.
4. Companies might not have a clear idea and therefore miscommunicate the type of employee they need.
5. Companies delay and lag to get in touch with potential candidates, who might already have other offers coming in faster.
6. Companies conduct interviews in old school ways by having 3-4 rounds, which creates a perfect opportunity for a candidate to interview and find other positions meanwhile.
7. If the job interview is not done in a professional way, it’s nearly impossible to get the candidate. What to say, when and to whom is an art in itself, which not everyone has mastered.
8. Inability to listen to the needs and wishes of the potential candidate (although only potential) might signal a red flag to them.
9. Companies not being able to hire someone well qualified and well paid, just because the salaries of existing employees would be lower.
10. There are some companies that put up job ads constantly, month after month, which might leave an impression that something is wrong there or there’s a big staff turnover.
11. It’s hard to distill the best channel to reach potential candidates in the myriad of options, such as social media, internal databases, job portals.
12. Lots of talent lost to emigration and higher salaries, which are hard to compete against.
13. Lithuanian companies growing fast and sweeping all the job seekers at once.

Only a patient and qualified recruitment process, while listening to the needs of candidates and reacting to the changes in the job market, can bring successful results!
